The Casualties Cambridge Concert reviews
Was okay
I am perhaps not your typical audience member, so I tend to be more critical than most.
The humor and audience interplay were good, but the segments generally dragged on for too long. It works for a minute to search out uncomfortable audience members for participation. Not 4 minutes.
The gimmicks were standard and familiar (the Twinkies eating, the throat camera, etc.). It would have been better if we had actually seen the body paint on stage instead of through a camera.
Impressive effects with the giant GiPads.
The percussion playing was mediocre, and the large unit they played the trio on seemed lackluster. Musically, it was uninspiring. There were a couple of cute gimmicks with the middle player getting stuck in the Beethoven piece... but beyond that, there were many missed opportunities.... crossing hands... more creative lighting.
The dance party section was geared towards the kids, but The Casualties might as well not have been on stage. The giant beach balls could have entertained the kids without any other stage presence. A bit of a waste of 10 minutes.
During the trio drum playing on the finale, the lights on the red liquid failed to work, so we missed out on 2/3 of the effect.
In general, the performance was decent, but not something I would want to see again.
